In Sanskrit the word Svaraat can be translated into "Independence" this was the famous rally call of the Gandhian Independence movement. So what was this independence? the ancient Veda's ,the foundation of India's original spiritual and religious culture accepts only Bhagavan as Svaraat, that only God is Independent all else are dependent, even the great planets in this cosmos are dependent on their fix orbit which can be predicted to the second as their movements have be predicted from the beginning of time, If the mighty Planets in just our own solar system attempted independence of the laws of God, all havoc would ensue, so what to speak of a tiny nation or an even tinier man. We can see that Gandhi ji's efforts for Independence did not free him from being bound by death.
His movement for living from the land and cottage industry instead of British factories was truly admirable, one of his adherents was my own spiritual master, who himself ultimately broke free and took Shelter of a true Mahatma (a great soul) Srila Bhakti Siddanta Saraswati Thakur, who kept his teaches solely dependent on the words of Krishna and His authorized representatives with out adding or subtracting to suite sentimental whim.
The principles that were lacking in Gandhi jis svaraat movement were the teaching given by God how to accept our dependence on Him and achieve our Independence from Illusion to be come independent of Kama, Kroda, Lobha. Lust, Anger, and Greed. To become free from the Ahankara the false ego that I am Indian I am British a Brahmana or a Muslim, mad dog, woman or child.
This is the Message of Bhagavat Gita which Gandi ji did speak from. However he accepted some of the words but rejected the unlimate and the original speaker Sri Krishna, as the result the Independent India has accepted Gandhi as Mahatma but have rejected his teachings, turning him into a postage stamp a pigeon roost statue on a roundabout in a congested city street intersection.
Immediately after the so called Independence one of the greatest blood baths swept across India. Where had the nonviolent movement gone? People were simple holding their breath long enough for him to get them what they wanted and as soon it was achieved his own people conspired to kill him. Now in every major Indian city you will find an MG road, oh yeah I forgot thats the common name. The formal being Mahatma Gandhi Road but people are too busy on there way to the factory job or too busy shopping for the imported luxury items and clothes that one is sure to find on this road,to say the the whole name. MG Rd is just so much easier(half as many syllables).
Go to the villages, they are empty the fields barren the farmers burning themselves alive with diesel or poisoning them selves with USA manufactured pesticides (they would have killed him one way or the other that's why the same product is banned in the USA) the water resources are drained to supply the bloated and haphazard cities drying up the hand dug wells and the mineral are being strip mined after the land grab from the royal families.
Where is the Independence...who cares! Where is my MTV, that is what the modern youth want to know. Now the world is becoming increasingly dependent on sense gratification especially India in the last 40 years. The success principles for India's Independence are rapidly falling apart.
The principle that caused Gandhi ji's success, which we can all take his example of, was austerity and simplicity, his mastery and control of his senses and words, his honesty, this is what brought the degree to his success you will see also that it is this principle that has India's educated class at the top of the worlds job market. Austerity and simplicity.
Gandhi ji has missed his chance to be bound by Love with the Svaraat Supreme Personality of Godhead. But we have not yet missed the opportunity to redevelop a powerful relationship to our source, the source of our earth, water, fire and air for which we are totally dependent for life. Let us seek how to live respectfully in relationship to all that for which we are dependent taking only our fair share know to whom it all belongs But let us not stop there, we can also re-awaken our natural love for this supplier and offer back what ever we may receive there by being at the source of what makes the world go round, Love...and all you need is love. God is Love, if we want to know love then we need to know God. we can know god only after we cease to be God or exploit Gods gifts.
